Lake Champlain Through the Lens: Juried Photography Exhibit
On Display September 6 - October 29
Didn’t have enough time to sit by the lake this summer? At Lake Champlain Through the Lens, the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum’s annual juried photography exhibit, you can savor spectacular sunsets, glimpses of dawn and dusk, and other captivating views of the scenery, people, boats, and wildlife of the lake. The exhibition is on view from September 6 through October 29 and is included with museum admission.

Best in Show, Amateur Division, was awarded to Pogo Senior of Williston, Vermont, for The Stone Skippers, a panoramic view of the lakefront with two silhouetted figures Smaking a nearly abstract design in the foreground.

Best in Show, Professional Division, was awarded to Sharon Fosbrook of Jericho, Vermont, for Tentative,
an unusual and dramatic image of an ice formation.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors are invited to submit comments and votes for the “People’s Choice Award” which is announced at the end of the exhibition.
Participating photographers in the Professional division include Royce Dendler, John Douglas, Daniel Doyle, Kirk Edwards, Sharon Fosbrook, David Juaire, Jean Carlson Masseau, David Schmidt, and Leif Tillotson.
Participating photographers in the Amateur division include Robert Abell, Jes Berry, Sarah Deutsch, Francie Deyette, Ann Galante, Millicent Hawkins, Megan Humphrey, Max Kraus, Henry Lampert, Evan Masseau, “Kevlar” Foster McKay, Sharon Otty, Shirley Reid, Pogo Senior, and Gary Sevcik.
The panel of judges who reviewed and commented on the work included:
- Eric A. Bessette, founder of Shadows & Light Design, has been art director and designer of exhibits and publications and also created films for clients including the Vermont Historical Society, Vermont’s Information Center Division, Vermont Folklife Center, and LCMM.
- Jerry LeBlond, of Photoques Photography, Rutland, is past president of Vermont Professional Photographers. He has for many years served on the board member and jury for Chaffee Center for the Arts and the jury panel for LCMM’s Lake Champlain Through the Lens.
- Marjorie Ryerson, executive director of Water Music, Inc., is an award-winning professor, photographer, poet, editor and journalist with photographs in periodicals and books including The Vermont Experience, Vermont for Every Season and Water Music. As an art photographer, Ryerson has had numerous one-woman shows of her work throughout the United States.
